To me, time is the most valuable commodity that I have. Why? Because there is an end and limit to the time we have in this world. Some of us trade our time for a paycheck, some for an education, some for travel and sometimes time seems to pass quickly, especially when you are having fun or have a tight deadline and sometimes it seems to pass very slowly, when you are doing something you don’t like. However, there are still 24 hours in a day and 365 days a year. Time passes.
Ultimately you have to think about what you want to spend that time on in your life - there is only a fixed amount of time that you have. You’ve been exchanging your time to build a business, a career, or perhaps a family. What is the value of your time? How do you want to spend the rest of your life? All of these things can be very interesting, but one day, you may look back and wonder what happened to all the time and think about the lost opportunity to spend that time doing something you enjoyed more.
There is a time to be born and a time to die. On that day, when it is the end of my life, I hope that I can reflect back and consider how I used my time, how my life reflected my optimal usage of my time.
My business is something that I spend a lot of time on, so some may question how that fits together with my optimal usage of time theory. Well, my business enables me to do things that are dear to my heart. Although it allows you to do other things in life, business in itself can be very fulfilling. Business can bring a lot of personal satisfaction.
Business to me is like raising a child. It starts out very small, there are many problems along the way, and ultimately, there is milestones of success. But along the way, there is a lot of love, a lot of giving, and some meaningful rewards. These successes or accomplishments should not measure you as a good person, or great person, but rather, give you inner-satisfaction that your child has grown up just as you dreamed - you may not be a good person but you might be a great parent (or in this case entrepreneur!). Ultimately though, a business can give you the means at the end of the day, to free up your time to do other things that you wish to do.
Some of the things I enjoy, that business allows me to do more of, include traveling, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, and of course spending time with family and friends. And of course, relaxing (preferably in a warm climate!)
Time accompanied with health to me is the most important because health gives value to that time. Being severely unhealthy restricts what we can do with our time so health plays a big role in my life. Being healthy means to be free.
